The short version: your photos never leave your phone unless you choose to share them. Wayfarer has no accounts, no analytics, no adverts, and no servers that hold anything about you. We could not look at your photos if we wanted to. We do not want to.
Wayfarer asks for access to your photo library. It reads your photos and the details stored inside them — the date and the location where each was taken — to build your map. All of this happens on your phone. Nothing in your library is uploaded anywhere.
Four narrow things cross the internet, each to make a feature work. None carries your name, your photos, or any account, because there is no account.
All purchases are made through Apple. Apple processes the payment; Wayfarer never sees your payment details. What you own is recorded by Apple against your Apple ID and read on your device.
A few small settings — for example which map skins you chose — sync between your devices through your own iCloud account, using Apple's infrastructure. We never see them.
Photos, frames and journeys leave your phone only when you share them, through the share sheet, to the people and apps you choose. A shared journey file contains the photos you put in it and the details you chose to show.
Wayfarer will offer optional hosted journals at wayfarer.pics: publish a journey and share it as a page on the web. Hosting needs an account, because we would then hold your published pages for you. The app itself never requires one, and everything on this page about your photos and your device stays true either way. When hosting launches, this policy will gain a section that names exactly what an account holds and how deletion works.
Nothing. Wayfarer keeps no user data. The one thing it runs on the web is the store of weather answers named above, filed by map area and day, with nothing in it that points to a person or a device. This website is a static page. If you email us, we will have your email — and we will only use it to reply.
Wayfarer is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone.
If this policy changes, the new version will appear on this page with a new effective date. Since we hold nothing about you, changes can only concern what the app sends to make features work — and we will name them plainly.
